Accessibility

Karo is built to WCAG 2.1 AA standards. The chat widget is designed to work for all visitors, including those using assistive technology.

What's built in

  • Keyboard navigation — the entire chat widget is operable without a mouse
  • Screen reader support — all interactive elements have appropriate labels; new messages are announced to screen readers
  • Colour contrast — default colour combinations meet WCAG AA contrast requirements
  • Focus management — focus is handled correctly when the widget opens and closes
  • Reduced motion — animations respect the visitor's prefers-reduced-motion setting

Colour customisation and accessibility

When you set custom brand colours in Interface settings, make sure your primary colour and text colour combination maintains sufficient contrast. We recommend checking your colours with a contrast tool like WebAIM's Contrast Checker.

SynapTix will flag obvious contrast issues, but the final responsibility for accessible colour choices rests with you.

Language and plain language

Karo's responses are written in clear, plain language. This benefits all visitors, including those with cognitive disabilities or who are reading in their second language.

Supporting access needs through the agent

Beyond the widget itself, Karo can actively support visitors with access needs through your knowledge base and agent instructions:

  • Write your accessibility provision into the knowledge base so Karo can answer "Do you have audio described performances?" or "Is the venue step-free?"
  • Use agent instructions to handle specific accessibility workflows — for example, guiding visitors through Nimbus Access card verification for accessible booking
