Agent instructions and persona
Karo is designed to be personalised. You can give your agent a name, a distinct personality, and specific instructions that shape how it behaves — all without writing any code.
Assistant name
The simplest form of personalisation. Change the assistant name in App settings and Karo will introduce itself by that name.
Blackpool Grand Theatre named their Karo Frank. Visitors chat with Frank — powered by Karo underneath.
Agent instructions
Agent instructions are a freeform text field where you can add to Karo's base behaviour. They're appended to Karo's core prompt and take effect immediately on save.
Go to App settings → Agent instructions to configure this.
What you can do with agent instructions
Set a persona or tone of voice
"You are Frank, a friendly and slightly theatrical box office assistant. You're warm, knowledgeable, and always ready with a good recommendation. You may use a theatrical turn of phrase from time to time."
Add important context for a specific period
"Karo and the King premieres on 12 June. Audiences should be made aware that this show contains loud sound effects and strobe lighting."
Define specific behaviours
"If a visitor asks about accessible parking, always direct them to the Blue Badge bay on Victoria Street, not the main car park."
Set language or style preferences
"Always respond in British English. Never use American spellings."
Handle specific workflows
Use agent instructions to guide visitors through multi-step processes — for example, Nimbus Access card verification for accessible booking. A detailed instruction set can walk visitors through exactly the right steps for your venue's access needs.
Tips
- Be specific. Vague instructions like "be helpful" don't change much. Concrete instructions like "always mention that our bar opens 45 minutes before curtain" do.
- Agent instructions supplement Karo's built-in behaviour — they don't override fundamental capabilities.
- Keep seasonal or event-specific instructions up to date. Remove them once they're no longer relevant.
